Pastured Chicken Eggs

Peckin’ & scratchin’ are what chickens were born to do, and at Woodside Farms we give them ample opportunity to do just that. The egg layers follow in a 3-day rotation on pasture behind the cattle to: (1.) Scratch and spread the manure of the cattle and distribute its fertilizing effects more evenly, (2.) Eat the fly larvae in the cow manure thereby reducing cattle pink eye brought on by flies and significantly reduce feed costs for chickens, (3.) Enjoy fresh air, sunshine, and chlorophyll from foraging fresh greens giving them happier healthier lives and more nutritious eggs for us. During the winter the egg layers are brought into our cold tunnels where deep bedding is used to soak up their waste. The deep bedding holds onto all the nutrients and is tilled into compost when the layers go back out on pasture. The cold tunnel and its composted soil are then used to grow ginormous vegetable plants throughout rest of the year.
